September Blog Post - Sasha

 September Blog Post:

I am doing this blog post now because if I don't, I will 100% forget about it. The prompt is to write my thoughts on anything. That is a pretty broad spectrum. Today I received an email saying my poem has made it into a writing competition and is being looked at for money prizes. That is pretty cool. I will attach the poem here, it's titled "The New Normality":

What is normalcy?
A bar that is set that you go beyond to create a legacy.
But now I'm in a world where eyes are the only part of someone's face we are allowed to see.
We have a new idea of normality.

I walk into a store and see eyes full of fear and curiosity,
Lines that once circled through aisles are now limited to about two or three.
Masks and shields that would once cause confusion now create a sense of safety.
Is this the new normality?

In school, voices are now muted by a mask but to be safe, they are mandatory.
The choice of getting vaccinated has now substituted for getting to know someone's personality.
The shutting down of stores and activities has given everyone amplified availability.
Is this the new normality?

The original bar of normal did not drop nor rise,
But the world around us has morphed into something our ancestors would not recognize.
A world of sickness and hatred and fighting with a lack of morality.
This is normality.

I wrote it right before I came back to in-person school last year. I may or may not have lied about my age to be eligible for the writing contest... but it was 1 year off nobody will find out. One cool thing I did over the summer was wrote, cast, and direct a short horror film. Well... I wrote and cast it the months prior but I filmed over this summer. The film is called "Harom" and it is centered around a 14-year-old boy named Cody who suffers from extreme OCD. In real life, that would be obsessive-compulsive disorder, but I made it an obsessive-compulsive demon. It is currently being edited, but I will attach some photos from filming so you can see a behind-the-scenes view.

Besides that, my life is relatively normal right now. I am happy to be back in school so I can talk to my friends outside of a phone screen... and the school work too. Alright, I'm gonna end this for now. When my movie is done, I will make sure to give the link to anyone who wants to watch it.
