Jolie Neuschatz-September blog post
September Blog:
When the broad prompt of writing about anything we pleased was proposed to me my mind began to wonder. What is important enough to write about? What is meaningful to me? After some pondering, I came to the conclusion that this summer was a time in my life that really stood out. What made it so special was my time spent around animals.
Animals had an amazing effect on me over the summer. At the end of last school year, we decided to foster a cat. We found out early on that cat was pregnant with five cats. As we watched her go from this tiny little thing to having a bulging belly my whole family's nerves grew and so did our excitement.
On March 1st I woke up to a kitten in the same room as me. I sprung up and quickly moved the kitten and the mom to the box that we had set up for them. Four more kittens popped out, I will save you the details. One was born not being able to breathe so we had to swing it in a certain way to allow air to flow. After a long day, all five kittens made it. They started off not being able to do anything. They couldn't see or walk. It was adorable watching them squirm around the box. Every day they got bigger and bigger and after about a week their eyes popped open. Their crawl slowly turned to a walk and before we know it they were escaping the box. We moved them to a bigger space and we really got to see their personalities. They climbed up anything they could and got into little catfights. Some were more adventurous than others and some were more skittish. After a few weeks of getting bigger and bigger, it was time for them to get adopted. The day came and we brought the kittens into an adoption center. One stayed home with us because we were keeping her. On the first day we took them to get adopted, two of the sisters got adopted together. It was tough to say goodbye but they were going to a great home. As I gave them some final love they went home with their new family. A few days later the other two boys got adopted together off the adoption sight. They went to a young family the next day. I was so glad to see the kittens each have a sibling to go
with.
We still have and are keeping the mom cat, Willow, and the baby cat, Buggy. Willow has watched Buggy grow up and they have such a special bond. Willow is calm and likes to sit around and sleep a lot. Buggy is the opposite, she gets into the craziest places and is always running around the house. (She is the one with the solo picture) They have brought so much joy into my family's lives. Interactions with animals truly give me something to look forward to every day.
They are so adorable. Buggy's name is so cute.
