Why I Hate Astrology by Anna Yerofeyev

For the past 2,400 years, humans have adapted the idea of astrology and horoscopes. Originally created by the Babylonians, Astrology has made its way across the Mediterranean into the rest of the world and still remains a popular belief, in fact, over 70 million people in The United States alone read their daily

horoscopes, according to the American Federation of Astrologers. These people that read their horoscopes will seek advice and live their lives according to the stars. Now call me crazy, but I don't think giant balls of gas 4.37 light-years away have any impact on a single individual's personal life.
Let's get one thing clear, there is a difference between astrology and astronomy. One is science, the other is BS. Astronomy is the movement of celestial bodies, using physics, math, and chemistry, Astronimists study planets, stars, and all the wonders that reside in our universe. Astrology however is a pseudoscience, a belief that is not backed up by a scientific fact or evidence. People who believe in astrology believe that the time of year someone was born, specifically the alignment of the stars at the time they were born, determines specific things about someone's mood, personality, and behavior. By this logic, there are only twelve different types of people in the world, and that everyone in these categories will behave similarly because of their horoscopes. So someone who was born in March to mid-April would be considered an Aries and they would read their Aries horoscope, and they would relate so much to it, and they would do whatever it says because it's "so true", here's the thing, the
original astrological signs were created over 2000 years ago, and the planet we live on does this fun little thing, it moves, which is what give us the zodiac signs, but as the earth spins and orbits, it also wobbles around its axis, it's a slight motion, but over the course of 2000 years it's estimated to have wobbled at least 30 degrees off of the original axis. So our Aries friend is actually more like a Pisces.

With no scientific fact backing up astrology, I personally find it so hard to believe in, but I do understand the appeal that people find in it. It is cool to some respect, the same argument could be made for religion, so I understand why people believe in it, but you will never find me checking my horoscope.

This is a bit dramatic I get it, I have a personal vendetta against astrology due to certain people who find ways to justify their outrageous behavior on the fact that they have a Scorpio rising and a Cancer sun. Someone I used to be very close with was like this. They made my life horrible and they were just a terrible person, their justification always had something to do with their astrological chart. That is the kind of stuff that makes me absolutely outraged. I would rather someone tie me up naked in a walk-in freezer with the misters on and leave me there for 4 hours than listen to someone tell me about how they can't focus because mercury is in retrograde, but you do you. :p

Anyways, astrology is very interesting and it can be important to some people, if you find that kind of stuff appealing then, by all means, go for it, but let's be reasonable. Don't justify everything on the stars that are light-years away. I hate to tell you, but they don't give a crap.

  1. Someone should send this message to my grandma hahahaha, and as someone who is a member of the most hated zodiac sign, I'd appreciate if people didn't judge so quick because I'm apparently 2 faced.

  2. I loved this! I 100% agrees! I idea of our personality coming from the stars is plain silly. I am glad you wrote about this.

  4. I agree with you 100%. Although astrology can be fun to look at sometimes, people are too quick to judge and you said that perfectly!
