September Blog by Charlotte Pennington
During the last week of summer, my family and I decided to watch a new show since Netflix added a bunch of new films. One show I heard great reviews about from my friends was The Walking Dead. I’ve heard about the show before but I wasn’t that type of person who was into gory shows. After watching 3 seasons so far and continuing onto the 4th season, I’d have to say that this has definitely become one of my favorite shows. Even though it’s super gory, it really hooks you in with the different issues the main characters face and makes you really think, “What would I do in this situation?” In my blog, I will be reviewing the first three seasons of the show without trying to spoil most of it.
Season One Review: In season one we meet a sheriff, named Rick Grimes, who was just shot when chasing down a car. When he wakes up from a coma, he learns that the world he knew is gone and that zombies or what they call “walkers” have taken over. Rick is now on a mission to find his wife and son while fighting for his survival. Eventually, he meets a group of survivors(Andrea, Glenn, T-Dog, Merle, Jacqui, and Morales) in Atlanta who were sent to retrieve supplies. Rick helps them get out of the city and back to their camp where he is reunited with his wife, Lori, his son, Carl, and his best friend, Shane. Lori and Shane have been seeing each other since Rick was believed to be dead. Over the season, walkers have been growing more dangerous for the camp and Rick wants to go back for a member that was left behind in the city.
Rating: 7/10
I rate this 7/10 because the season was only 6 episodes and the episodes for me progressed so slowly that I didn’t even care about the majority of the characters. However, I did think that the overall plot was very good.
Season Two Review: In season two, the group has moved from the mountains and are now living off the road after learning the government was shut down. The majority of the season is spent on the group trying to find a safe place to stay and finding a young girl from their group who went missing during a zombie attack. They move to a farm where the main characters all have different relationships with the family who owns it. Some of them don’t trust them while others are getting super close. While facing the threat of zombies, the group is also facing trouble with each other as Shane is jealous of Rick and Lori and is continuously lying to the group. Throughout the season, the relationships grow and the plot twists are shocking.
Rating: 9/10
I rate this 9/10 because there were a lot more episodes that built more on the characters’ personalities and we really get to know what kind of people they are. I also loved the plot twists and the feeling of “What happens next?” Not only are you eager during the season but you are also sad from the deaths in the show.
Season Three Review: In season three, the group has moved once again, out of the farm. Andrea is separated from the rest of the group and is brought in by a lonely traveler named Michonne, while the main group finds a prison to stay in. During this season, Lori is pregnant and it’s not looking too good for her as other people are also in the prison. Andrea and Michonne are brought into a town that is zombie free and fully protected. While it might seem pleasant on the outside, it’s a mystery what’s going on inside with the mysterious governor. The town and the prison are near each other and both groups have major issues with each other.
Rating: 9/10
I rate this 9/10 because this really pulled on your heartstrings throughout the series. Some of my favorite characters died this season which really made me tear up and I loved how this show focused on how humans could behave without order. This was probably my most favorite season out of the three because of how well written it was and I got introduced to a new favorite character.
