Gilmore Girls by Kayleigh O'Brien
The famous sitcom, Gilmore Girls, has seven amazing seasons, with numerous ups and downs that will leave you wanting more. I have watched Gilmore Girls two times through, and am currently halfway through my third time. In my opinion, Gilmore Girls is one of the most heartfelt, surprising, and uplifting tv shows on Netflix. When you start watching thinking you'll watch an episode or two, you'll end up laying in bed at midnight having watched over a season in a few hours. In this blog, I will be reviewing each season of Gilmore Girls, to describe why this incredible tv show should be watched by everyone.
Background
In this series, the two main characters are a smart, spontaneous, and outgoing mother-daughter duo that live in a small town called Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Rory and Lorelli Gilmore are closer than any mother and daughter you can imagine. Lorelli has Rory at sixteen and is raising her as a strong, independent single mother. As this mother and daughter try to navigate a small town going into a big world, they will face challenges that they have never before. The local diner owner, and a very close friend to them both, Luke Daines has a very close relationship with the girls, especially with Lorelli. ;) Rory's best friend in Starts Hollow is a young naive girl, with a very strict catholic mother, Lane Kim. Lorelli's best friend is her coworker at the Independence Inn, Sucki Saint James. These two grow closer together as they share a passionate dream of one day opening their own inn with their snarky assistant Michelle. They will go through boyfriends, schools, and have many disagreements on anything from what to eat for dinner to dropping out of school. But through it all, they stick together to cruise through an eye-opening world that will shape their relationship.
Seasons 1-7
At the start of this series, Rory has just found out that she has been excepted into one of the most prestigious private schools in the state. At first, this was the best news that she could've ever received, but as she bumps into a new student from school, this just might change her perspective on leaving her former public high school. As this is happening, Lorelli is having struggles revolving around this new school as well. After going through some financial issues, Lorelli is forced to turn to her very rich parents, who she hasn't spoken to since she got pregnant as a teen. Lorelli soon starts to fall for a man that she shouldn't. This opens up more issues within their family, that is yet to be resolved. At the end of this first season, we are left on a cliffhanger, where Lorelli must make a life-changing decision that can either wreck her relationship or seal it for life. At her new school, Rory is confronted with annoying, rude classmates, who will come into her life abruptly. Season three starts when Rory's birth father wants to be involved in her life. This argument ends abruptly when Lorelli is not fond of the idea and pushes him away. Not only does Rory have troubles with her father, but Luke's seventeen-year-old nephew comes to Stars Hollow which very negatively affects her relationship. Rory's best friend soon figures out that the more and more her mother strives to make her perfect, the more imperfect she becomes. As she trie to struggle with her mother, relationship interests, and friends, Lane will fall in love with a new hobby; music. This will be very hard on her and her mother's relationship, almost tearing it apart. A young Rory rapidly approaching college, has always had her heart set on Harvard. She and her mother had both known that "It had been her dream ever since she could talk"(Lorelli). With mistakes being made, a school coming up, and relationships coming and going, Rory and Lorelli's tight relationship is starting to loosen.
Starting in season four, Rory starts college with an unexpected roommate that will surprise her. What school did she go to you may ask? You will be surprised and anxious to find out, but you'll just have to see for yourself. In these next few seasons, boyfriends come and go, and some previous relationships may even make a comeback. What's the catch? One of these relationships that Rory has gotten herself into may not have been the best of ideas. You see, Rory has seemed to have forgotten that it is favored to have relations with someone that isn't already taken. Not only does Rory get herself involved in a tough situation, but Lane, Luke, and Lorelli have got some romantic problems of their own to deal with. Lane has to navigate the situation of "first love's" while Luke and Lorelli will soon realize that sometimes the person you've been looking for you're whole life has always been there, standing right in front of you. Or in this case, sitting right in the middle of your diner. Nearing the end of the season, Rory will get herself involved with another very serious but troublemaking relationship and will struggle with staying in school, keeping in contact with her mother, and balancing her life with the little free time she has. How will this all play out? Who will end up together? Well, I guess you'll just have to watch Gilmore Girls on Netflix to find out.
Review
Gilmore Girls isn't like any other sitcom. It shows that with very close relationships it can, surprisingly, be very hard to open up about personal situations. This show shows the bonds between families, friends, and enemies, and how they can shape the way we see our world. Gilmore Girls is a great show with an astonishing viewpoint on how to be yourself, no matter what everyone else thinks. This show will be an eye-opener for some people, which you will never want to stop watching. Like a good book, you will never want to put down this show, no matter how many times you watch it through. I would highly recommend Gilmore Girls if you need a show that will hook you in, and leave you laughing, crying, and full of new perspectives. Even if you've never watched a show like this before, I would advise anyone to give it a chance, because it is a classic show that puts a twist on classic relationships.
1) YESSS. 2) #teamjess. 3) I totally recommend Dawson's Creek its on Netflix it is around this time (even has some shared cast members) and was literally my favorite tv show ever. 4) LUKE DANES IS THE BEST CHARACTER IN THIS SHOW AND YOU CAN NOT CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE
ReplyDeleteI love that you guys are watching shows that were part of MY teenage pop culture! I loved The Gilmore Girls and can't wait until my daughter is old enough to watch it with me. I also loved Dawson's creek! Have any of you watched Felicity? That was another popular one! Or One Tree HIll?
ReplyDeleteOh god, I tried Felicity but my second hand embarrassment and yelling at her through the screen got to be too much. I wanna watch One Tree Hill tho, the guy that played Charlie in Dawson's creek and Tristan in Gilmore Girls is a lead in that show so I wanna watch hahahaha
